10 months

taking his owl picture this month was very difficult, and at times precarious as calvin kept trying to jump off the couch.

10 months
 9 months

our little ham is 10 months old.

this past month:

- c's army crawl turned into a full fledged crawl:

- has spent lots of time outside (bikes, swimming, walks), and has got himself a nice farmer's tan.

- is pulling himself up on everything:
and because of that he skipped many naps to practice his new skills:

too busy to nap from Whitney Asay on Vimeo.
- he switched over to formula because of all his teeth.
(figuring out how much formula to give him has been the trickiest part. he hardly drinks more than 4 oz.... but i feel like that isn't enough for a 10 month old... but he's content and has lots of wet/messy diapers so i guess it is ok )
- holds the bottle on his own.
 -  loves toast and cheese, and eats lots of finger foods.
- loves opening and closing anything he can find (doors, drawers).
- went through a phase where he was constantly grinding his teeth (worst sound ever).
- got little sores on both his big toes from doing this:
so he got some new shoes (but i only paid 7 for them here).
- loves animals. especially my parents' horses and any bird. he also played with a toad and some caterpillars this month.
 - learned how to wave.
waving to a bird
- says ma ma ma ma when he is sad.
- got his first real haircut (#3 on the sides and just trimmed everywhere else).
here is what he looked like before (turn your sound on low):

during:
after:
- still a screamer (all day long).
- has outgrown his 6 m clothes. wears 6-12 m, and some 12m.
- is so fun to tickle and wrestle.
- nothing stops him from getting to computers or iphones.

we can't believe how fast he is growing!
love this little c.z boy!

first swim of the summer

ok, i know it isn't summer yet.. but there have been some days lately that sure feel like it.
on one particular 80 degree day, cal and i made our way to the local toys r us to pick up a little pool for him.
we came back.
 c napped.
dad helped fill the pool with water - and even boiled some to warm it up.
after his nap it was time to apply the sunscreen and let him play in his pool.
if you couldn't tell by the pictures... calvin loved it. he was a splash monster.

hoogle zoo

c and i joined the asay cousins on a trip to the zoo.
cal wasn't very impressed.
he mostly chilled in his bob and slept.
it was still fun for me and we will definitely be going back when c is older.

wee ride

j and i love to ride bikes.
josh is really into mountain biking, and i am more of a street cruiser kind of girl.
after doing a little research we purchased a fun little seat for cal.
josh installed it on my bike, and we have gone for little rides as much as possible.
we don't leave our street with cal because we dont have a helmet for him yet.
but cal loves it.

the plague

j and i go to the temple every second tuesday of the month. this month we left cal with his grandma deenie. i was sure he would be a good boy for her because he had taken unusually long naps that day. he was not happy after we left and when we came back deenie kept saying he felt warm, and was acting like he was sick.

we took him home and his temp was 102.5. poor thing. i gave him some tylenol put him in a light cotton onesie and had him sleep with us. the next day his temp was 101.something. i called his pediatricians office and they said to keep him hydrated and that it was probably nothing to worry about. that night he had a rash on his bum.. and the fever was gone. the next day the rash was on his hands, arms, and upper legs. i thought it was a little strange and called the nurses back. they said it was probably a post-viral rash; something kids get all the time after they are sick.

well friday morning when c woke up, his little rash had turned into blisters... i thought he had the chicken pox and made an appointment to bring him in that day. our regular pediatrician was off so we saw someone else (who i did not like at all). after the shortest visit, he diagnosed c with having hand foot and mouth disease. (which sounds a lot worse than it really is) he said it has been going around, and c could have gotten it just about anywhere.

i tried to think back to the places we had been the week before: 2 different parks 3 different times where he swung on the swings, 2 restaurants' high chairs (that i always clorox wipe before he sits in them), changing table at church, church in general, the grocery store and costco (again clorox wipe always), the orem rec center (that place is a petri dish for infections)... and so on.

so basically, my ocd with avoiding all those nasty-nasts i learned about in microbiology somehow failed me and my babe caught a bug.

c got it the worst on his hands and bum... and hardly in his mouth. after his fever past he was back to his normal self playing lots and crawling all over.

o and did i mention that josh caught it too? poor guy was hit hard. stayed home from work. sipped on banana strawberry smoothies and slept for 36 hours.

needless to say, we were on quarantine for a while. and i am very happy to have a healthy family back.

here is the photographic evidence of my little leper boy:

easter 2012

easter ties the 4th of july for my favorite holiday.
springtime sunshine.
thoughts on the atonement.
tulips.
family parties.
egg hunts.
He is risen.
blossoms.
passover.
 mini cadbury eggs.
new clothes.
green grass.
general conference.
those are just a few of the reasons why i love easter time.

this year we had three easters.

first we got together for an easter FHE with my family.
we took some family pictures before my brother goes on his mission to singapore (yikes!)
i just set up my tripod, and we had a neighbor come be a clown behind the camera to get the boys to look.
look at the babies holding hands.

mom made a delicious dinner including cornish hens and homemade bread.
we all got spoiled by the easter bunny,
and the boys played nicely wrestled on the floor.
the boys doing their best to look like the easter bunny
on the saturday before easter we had a yummy lunch and egg hunt at the asay's with the cousins.
this was the only picture we took on j's iphone.. so i stole a few off of sarah's blog.
thanks sarah!
there were a few baby eggs for cal and logan filled with little melt-aways.

and then on easter sunday we went to aunt lulu's for a beautiful meal and egg hunt.
she is so sweet and went all out for jackson and calvin.

my grandma and grandpa have a tradition of feeding the babies in the family redvines,
so jackson and cal were initiated on easter.
the boys loved them, and surprisingly, didn't make too big of a mess.

we were all spoiled this year as we celebrated easter.
I am so grateful for our Savior and Redeemer - His life, death, and resurrection.

this is what easter is really all about:

9 months

i am starting to feel like my baby isn't a baby anymore..
he is a little boy, learning and growing everyday.
9 months                    /                    8 months
at his 9 month appointment:
weight 18 lbs 9 oz = 45%
height 26.75 inches = 10%
head circumference of 44.5 cm = 45%
still has a murmur

i was really nervous after they weighed him because he hadn't gained very much since his 6 month apt, but i guess that's pretty normal at this age, especially for how active he is.

after talking it over with the doctor, we decided to postpone his cardiology follow up
we are going to keep watching/waiting and reevaluate at his next well child visit.

this past month can be summed up in two words.
# 1. teething
after many sleepless nights, irritable days, lots of biting, drooling, and chewing,
he gotten his top 4 teeth.
 #2 moving
he is now mobile with the cutest army crawl you will ever see.
he uses his left leg only to kick off, while his arms grab and pull.
he has finally gotten the rolling thing down.
his favorite things to go after are dresser drawers and electric cords.
he also really likes strings and shoelaces.

life has definitely changed around here with a mobile baby.
i quickly learned that if things are quiet, than c is up to no good.
i have found little tricks to keep him out of trouble,
like putting him in my tub while a do my hair:
if we help him stand up, cal likes to stand at his toy chest and grab at his toys.
we love it when he gets on his tippy toes and reaches for something until his toes come off the ground.

a few other random things about my little man:
- he is a screamer! (as shown by the video above) he will scream until everyone looks at him, than he laughs and laughs.
- he has started throwing little fits when we take things away from him, but is easily distracted to something new.
- spent a few nights in bed with us because of teething.
- he opens his mouth and licks my hand when i wash his face.
- he loves finger foods and has added string cheese and pastina to his diet.
- he loves to share his binkey or anything he is eating by shoving it into your mouth.
- smacks his lips and pretends to chew when he wants something to eat
- has not picked up on any of the signs we have been trying to teach.
- his favorite toys right now are his stacking cups, stacking rings, and any interactive books.

love love love him!
