don't want to forget this, friday #1

i keep thinking of random things that i haven't blogged about but want to record... so i am starting a new friday tradition.

today is about calvin.. what's new? but more specifically about his name.

when josh and i were dating, we had a conversation about baby names.. (a requisite conversation to getting engaged right?) we both agreed that we liked names with meaning. and we both loved the name calvin. 

calvin is the name of josh's grandpa:

 

(this guy loves to laugh and can sit and tell jokes for hours)

the first time our cal met grandpa cal, was at matt and sarah's wedding:

baby cal was 2 months old.

grandpa cal got teary eyed when we told him c's name, and he kept saying, 

"are you sure?"

it was really sweet.

 we love when grandpa cal comes to town

and one day we are going to go visit him in oklahoma...

calvin discovered the toy store last night.

he was in awe.

this christmas is going to be SO fun!

byu vs usf

my brother got us tickets to the byu vs usf football game. we were on the very last row of the west side, right under all the boxes... and it was perfect! the seats had backs on them and it was a great view of the game. we were so happy that the cougs won. it was a gorgeous night. 

life was good in cougartown...

we brought baby c to the game, and he did great! at first he was irritated at all the cheering, but he got used to it and eventually fell to sleep. so fun. we love this little coug!

 

grandma and grandpa, aunt alisha, and uncle jared were there too. it was a fun fun night!

c's blessing

baby c was blessed earlier this month. it was such a great sacrament meeting and i couldn't  be more proud of my boys:

 we waited a little longer to bless calvin, because we really wanted my dad to be there. grandpa got back the night before from a month long trip to africa. 

we were happy he survived the rats, and fleas, and long flights home. 

and we were especially happy that cal still fit in his blessing outfit.

after, we had a little luncheon at the noni gardens. it was a beautiful day. i really like how this picture of my family turned out. unfortunately we didn't get one with j's fam..

but we were sure glad they were there too!

 i am so grateful for the gospel in my life. i am grateful that josh and i were sealed in the temple, so that calvin can be ours forever. i know the plan of salvation is real, and feel so blessed to have sir calvin in my life. he really is a noble boy with a divine origin, and he will do great things in his life.

i'll love you forever..

bum, bum, bumbo

hi everyone,

calvie here.

i thought it was about time we sat down and had a talk.

if you haven't noticed i am growing up fast.
i slept in my crib for the first time last night.
aren't you proud?

lately, i have been doing lots of smiling...

lots of tummy time...

and when i am feeling strong, some bumbo sitting.

but of course my favorite thing to do is stare out the windows.

one time last week, i played a joke on mom and dad...

i blew out my diaper all the way up to my armpits.

on both sides.

they had to cut my onesie off in order to get me in the tub.

i thought it was funny.

i have been spending lots of time with my grandmas, 

aunt emily, and daddy lately

while mom takes care of other babies who are littler than me.

i love playing with them.

well, that's all for now.

hopefully mom will blog about my blessing soon. 

that was a good day i want to remember.

aren't we lucky?? we only wish they all lived close.

utah state fair

i love fairs! j and i went to the utah state fair when we were dating, and have been trying to go back, but never had the time to. well this september, we made sure we had time to go. we met up with kylie, dave, mj and kevin. it was really fun.

i tied cal onto me and he slept most of the night. since we couldn't really go on any rides, j and i made sure to enjoy some of the deliciousness available.. like corn dogs and homemade ice cream.

 

we all went on the ferris wheel, and baby c woke up during the ride. 

he enjoyed looking at all the bright lights.

 we decided that cal will probably have more fun next year, but were glad we went.

shots & stats

this is kind of a long video of cal doing what he does best lately.. socializing!
he is smiling and cooing lots, and i can't get enough.

at his 2 month appointment dr. clayton had a hard time listening to his murmur because he was cooing the whole time. dr clayton said he was a very social 2 month old.. until recently baby c would really only play with j or i... it is fun to share this sweet side of cal that we have been seeing for a few weeks now...

anyways his 2 month stats:

height: 22.5 inches = 50%

weight: 11 lbs 1.5 oz = 40%

head circumference: 38 cm = 25%

immunizations he was given:

1. DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis)/IPV (polio)/HIB (influenza type b)

 (those three were given in 1 shot)

2. pneumococcal (shot)

3. hep b (shot)

4. rotavirus (cal got this one orally)

he did get a little fever and was extra clingy/fussy through the night.. but once the tylenol kicked in, he was happy (proof = the video above).

for my community health class we had to take a picture of a sticker that says, 'this is public health' on something and explain how that this related to public health. the timing of the assignment couldn't of been any better. my model on the other hand was not wanting to hold still and show off both his bandaids... that's okay though. his cute face makes up for it.

 calvin turned 2 months yesterday. he's still growing lots and getting stronger each day. here are some facts about cal at this age:

 he loves to be swaddled. he will calm down almost the instant we start swaddling him.

despite our best efforts, he is very sneaky, and will get him arms loose from his swaddle, or like pictured below, he will sneak a few fingers out

he loves his binkie

he is getting better at controlling his hands and has started to rub his eyes when he's tired (which often times knocks out his binkie and makes him mad).

his little fingers love to tickle my neck or my arm when he nurses or is falling to sleep.

he visited the salt lake temple for the first time when his uncle matt married sarah.

he still loves it when we rub his feet. 

he is happiest first thing in the morning. he always wakes up with lots of smiles and coos.

he got his first owie, a scratch on his arm, at matt and sarah's reception. we think it was from someone's boutonniere.

 

he has started loosing his soft baby hair (sad face)

he loves his baby einstein cd of poems, alphabets, and numbers in different languages.

he met his great grandfather, calvin asay. 

and took a four generation shot with his dad and grandpas.

 

he went to his first day of kindergarten... okay well he helped his grandma set up her kindergarten classroom, and loved looking at all the neat decorations she has there.

he has grown out of all his newborn clothes.

he spent times with his cousins..

he went from no eyelashes to long, full ones that curl up:

his eyes are a dark blue.

he watched the cougs win.

he loves his play pad with the dangling toys and mirror.

he is going 4-5 hours between feeds and sometimes 6 at night.

he has his 2 month appointment tomorrow so i will do an update with his growth 411.
