four months

little man is four months old!!!
here's his growth progression:

4 months
3 months
newborn

yesterday was his well baby check up, and here are his stats:
weight: 15 lbs 3.5 oz - 55%
height: 24.5 inches - 45%
head circumference: 40.3 cm - 20%

the doctor also gave us the go-ahead to start cal on solids in a few weeks.
we decided that thanksgiving would be a great day.
before then, i need to buy some bibs and baby spoons.

he got his 4 month shots, and didn't seem to get as fussy as he did last time.

his murmur is still there, and seems to have gotten louder.
we are going to see a pediatric cardiologist this week to get an echo done.
he's growing well, and has never gone blue..
so we think everything will look fine, but we want to make sure.

this past month:

calvin learned how to stand up
he's laughing (see this post)

he got his first ear infection and first round of bubblegum antibiotics.
while he was sick, he would not let me put him down.
luckily i was able to take off a few clinicals to take care of him.i am not kidding. i held that boy for 3 days straight - day and night.
i was sleep deprived, and covered in snot / medicine / tears..
but i was willing to do anything to get him feeling better again.
he went to california and visited the san diego temple, the ocean, and my old house, and he met lots of friends that i grew up with.
he is getting chubby!
i have officially put away all of his 0-3 month clothes.
earlier this month, i won a loopy blanket that cal loves.
(which is a miracle b/c i never win anything!)
it is a small blanket with little taggies sticking out.
it is perfect for putting him to sleep,
he likes it to be snuggled up by his face (like in the picture above)
and the airplanes match a quilt grandma asay made him.
he continues to drool lots!

he is talking/singing more and more.
we have had to leave sacrament a few times b/c he was socializing too much.
(sorry the beginning is sideways.. i don't know how to fix it)

he is still sleeping with me for most of the night.
and getting him to go to sleep is getting harder and harder.
he fights it, and will do all can to wiggle out of my arms.
it takes holding him tight with both arms, while holding his binky in his mouth with my shoulder, and rocking him and covering his eyes to get him down.
once he's asleep, if it's during the day i'll put him in his swing..
at night, he'll sleep in his crib for about 45 mins..
then i hear him wake up and he'll talk/sing/play independently in his crib for about an hour before crying...
so i go get him and he sleeps in bed with me.
we definitely need to figure something out because our queen bed is getting smaller and smaller every night.

he's getting better at sitting up..
he visited dad at work, and sat in uncle matt's chair..
overall, our little man is healthy and growing big.
everyday he learns something new.
being a mom is seriously the best thing.
and dad loves his little guy too...

What a little chubber! He is so dang cute! Reading your blog brings back so many memories from that last semester! I hope it's going well! I know how tough it is leaving that baby (and enough milk!)! :) he is so dang cute Whitney and I'm glad you got to spend time with him when he was sick because that is the worst! The end is near! woo hoo!

Harper was having major issues sleeping there for awhile too... We finally gave in and tried the "crying it out" thing, which nearly killed me! I couldn't last longer than 5 minutes at first, but now she puts herself to sleep (most nights) pretty easily and when she does, she sleeps SO much better! I know there are a lot of mixed reviews on the topic, but I got to the point (where it sounds like you are) that I just needed another option. I was exhausted. She still doesn't sleep all the way through the night, but we usually get a MINIMUM of 4 hours, usually around 6 or 7 before she wakes up. Then I get up and feed her and she falls right back to sleep. Good luck!!
