{s.i.m.p.l.e}

in character, in manner, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity
- henry wadsworth longfellow

one of the highlights of our trip was going back to see the simple lives the pioneers lived.
j and i were both a little jealous of the beautiful hand built homes with their gardens, summer kitchens, wood sheds, home remedies, and close-knit families.
we both fell in love with this cute little place in kirtland.
...
this was the home of newell and elizabeth whitney, where joseph and emma stayed for a time. elizabeth was one of the original leaders in the relief society. she was an herbalist who grew her own herbs and used them as remedies in healing the sick.

... i would learn the healer's art.
to the wounded and the weary
i would show a gentle heart...

one of my favorite hymns.. one of my life's mottos..
possibly one of her's too.

I love it! What a neat looking house! I would love to live in a simple yet beautiful home! I would also love to know more about using herbs as home remedies!
