martin. harris. pageant. and grandma

two weekends ago we went to a scott family reunion up in northern utah. friday night j and i drove up there and attended the martin harris pageant. it was in a little town called clarkston at the cemetery he is buried in. it looked like this:

just lovely.
some interesting facts about martin harris and the scott family.
when i was younger, my sweet grandma and step grandpa served a mission in palmyra, new york. they lived in martin harris's home. during one of the summers they were there, we had a scott family reunion and filled that house with rowdy cousins, lots of piano playing and song singing, and fun outings to the sacred grove and hill cumorah. we all slept there in that house in little sleeping bags on the floor.
when i was a little older, my family went back to visit:

anyways, it was fun to go to the play and learn more about martin.

the next morning we got up and went to the logan temple:

i'm going to stray for a second.. and come back to the temple.. keep reading..
...
this is my grandma - arline martindale scott brinton:

88 years ago, she was sealed to her family in the logan temple. she was 2.
this was the beginning of a long life full of faith, service, and dedication to the Lord.
her and my grandpa had 7 children - the youngest and only boy = my dad.
she and grandpa met while they were both serving missions in the western state mission.
later grandpa became the mission president of that exact mission.
my dad was 8 and lived in the big mission home with all the missionaries.
he would tell me bedtime stories about the fun times had in that home.
grandma sang in the mormon tabernacle choir.
both grandma and grandpa worked for the church, and spent a lot of time in the presence of devout people.
they fit right in.
his good friend, president hinckley spoke at the funeral when grandpa died.
i was 2. that was 20 years ago.
grandma misses him and talks about him all the time.
we all miss him.
she buried her second husband 2 years ago.
when i went through the temple for the first time, my main request was to have my dear grandma there.
she is the most celestial woman i know.
...
know back to the logan temple
it was wonderful to be there and to have my grandma there and to know the significant impact that temples have had on her, starting with the this temple.
instead of her watching me, this time i got to watch her.
how humble, and gracious she is.
if i could be like anyone, it would be her.
